Lindera benzoin - Northern Spicebush, Wild Allspice, Common Spicebush. Lindera benzoin is a shrub of moist forest understories, growing to 15-20 feet tall. You can make tea from the aromatic leaves and twigs.

The blossoms of Northern Spicebush are in clusters around the leaf nodes, occurring before the leaves form on this deciduous shrub. They will form red fruits which are enjoyed by birds.

Yellow clusters of spicebush blossoms appear on the bare branches in early spring. They have a pleasant frangrance.
