Fragaria virginiana is a member of the rose family and has that family's characteristic 5 petals. The petals are white and surround a yellow center.

The leaf has three toothed leaflets. If this plant weren't so far out of the known range, I would suspect it to be F. vesca rather than F. virginiana since the flowers appear to be held above the leaves rather than below. F. virginiana normally holds its blossoms below the leaves. I wasn't aware of this difference when I was photographing the plant, so didn't note if this was an anomaly of this particular photograph.
